When Do I Need a Crane or Lift for My Custom Metal Building Installation?

Lift for Custom Metal Building

Are you considering having a large steel building erected for your farm or business? Great idea! High-quality steel barns, workshops, garages, and other custom buildings offer an economical, durable, and flexible option for your business, farm, or private property. But did you know that many metal building manufacturers require a lift for large steel building installation?

Reasons a Crane or Lift Rental May Be Necessary for My Steel Building Installation

Why might a lift or crane rental be required for a large metal building installation? Lifts, and sometimes a crane, may be needed in order to ensure that the trusses can be set properly, as they are heavy and bulky, making them difficult for an installation crew to handle. This is especially useful when building side walls are 14’ tall or higher because 12’ ladders don’t give the installation team the ability to get up onto the roof and properly secure the trusses. With safety being the number one factor for both the crew and the property owner, the appropriate equipment should be used to guarantee proper installation.

General Guidelines for Metal Building Installations Requiring Lift Rentals

As the popularity of large, custom steel buildings continues to grow, so does the need for additional equipment in order to ensure a quality installation.  Here are some basic criteria for steel building installations requiring a lift or, in some cases, a crane:

  • Metal barns, workshops, garages, and carports with side walls that are 13’ or taller
  • Custom steel buildings that are 30’ in width or wider

While it may seem like a daunting task at first, these equipment rentals are usually readily available in your local area and easy to find by simply typing “lift rental [your location]” into the search box of your favorite search engine.
Rentals are relatively inexpensive, and you can have the equipment delivered on the same day the installation team erects your new custom metal building. The equipment rental businesses will not provide someone to operate the lift or crane, but the installation crews will be able to operate it.  Most of our installers and crews are very skilled in this and have used one on several other jobs in the past.
