Rent-to-own vs Financing vs Paying in Full

Three ways to pay for the same building. Which one fits depends on your credit, how fast you need approval, and how long you want to pay.

Top-selling Rent-to-own Metal Buildings

Every building below sits inside the $2,500 to $25,000 rent-to-own range. Use the calculator above to price any of them monthly.

How Rent-to-own Metal Buildings Work

Rent-to-own is a straightforward way to get a steel building without a bank, a loan application or a credit check. You pick the building, put down a deposit, and pay the rest monthly until it is yours. Carport Central runs the program directly, so there is no outside lender deciding whether you qualify and no waiting days for an answer.

The agreement is month to month, so you are never locked into a long term contract. You can settle the balance in full at any point with no early payoff penalty. Buildings priced between $2,500 and $25,000 are eligible, which covers the large majority of the carports, garages, barns, sheds and workshops we sell.

What You Pay and When

You start with a down payment of at least 10% of the building price, plus a security deposit. After that you make one payment a month across a term you choose: 24, 36, 48, 60 or 72 months. A shorter term costs less overall, a longer term gives you the smallest monthly payment. The calculator on this page shows both ends of that trade so you can see the numbers before you fill anything out.

Rent-to-own Steel Buildings with No Credit Check

The single biggest reason people pick rent-to-own over financing is the credit check, because there is not one. No soft pull, no hard inquiry, and nothing that lands on your report. If your credit is thin, if you are rebuilding after a rough patch, or if you simply do not want another inquiry on file, rent-to-own gets you the same building on the same schedule as a cash buyer.

Approval is usually same day. You answer a few questions about the building and the site, sign the agreement, and pay the first month plus your deposit. From there the process is identical to any other order: your building is fabricated, scheduled and installed by our crew.

If you need a building larger than $25,000, or you want the lowest possible monthly payment over a longer term, take a look at metal building financing instead. That path does involve a credit check, but it stretches to 180 months and covers buildings up to $250,000.

Who Rent-to-own Is Right For

  • You need the building now and cannot pay the full price up front
  • You would rather not have a credit inquiry on your record
  • You are self-employed, retired or seasonal, and traditional lenders make it complicated
  • You are already paying a storage unit every month and have nothing to show for it
  • You want the freedom to pay the building off early when a good month comes along

Rent-to-own Beats Renting a Storage Unit

A public storage unit takes a payment every month and you never own anything. Rent-to-own takes a payment every month and at the end you own a building that sits on your own property. Your equipment is steps from the back door instead of across town, you set the access hours, and the building keeps earning its keep long after the final payment clears.

A rent-to-own building is also more than storage. Customers use theirs as a workshop, a hobby space, a garden shed, a tack room or an extra covered bay for a truck that will not fit in the house garage.

Which Buildings Qualify for Rent-to-own

Rent-to-own Carports and RV Covers

Single, double and triple rent-to-own carports are the most popular category by a wide margin, and they are the cheapest way into the program. Taller RV covers handle campers, fifth wheels and boats that would otherwise sit out in the weather or cost you a monthly lot fee.

Rent-to-own Metal Garages and Shop Buildings

Fully enclosed rent-to-own metal garages come with roll-up doors, walk-in doors and windows, so everything inside is locked up and out of sight. Size the height and door opening for a lift, a work bench or a full shop, and the same building doubles as a workspace and secure storage.

Rent-to-own Barns and Sheds

Regular, A-frame and vertical roof rent-to-own barns handle hay, livestock and farm equipment, and lean-to configurations add covered space along one or both sides. Smaller steel sheds cover garden tools, mowers and seasonal gear for a payment that often lands under what a storage unit costs.

What Changes Your Rent-to-own Price

Two buildings the same footprint can be hundreds of dollars apart. The things that move the number most are:

  • Size. Width, length and leg height. Height in particular drives cost more than people expect.
  • Roof style. Regular roof is the most affordable, A-frame sits in the middle, and vertical roof costs more but sheds rain, snow and debris far better on long buildings.
  • Gauge. 14-gauge framing is standard, 12-gauge is heavier and stronger where wind and snow loads call for it.
  • How enclosed it is. Open sides are cheapest, partial panels cost more, and a fully enclosed garage with doors and windows sits at the top.
  • Certification. A certified building is engineered for your local wind and snow ratings, and many counties require it before they will issue a permit.
  • Your site. Level ground and easy access keep costs down. Sloped or tight sites may need grading or extra anchoring.

Concrete is quoted separately from the building because slab work is handled by a local contractor before delivery. If you want both, say so on the quote form and we will lay the two parts out side by side. See metal buildings with concrete for how that sequence works.

FAQ

Rent-to-own Metal Building Questions

Do You Run a Credit Check for Rent-to-own Metal Buildings?

No. Rent-to-own approval on buildings up to $25,000 does not involve a credit check, and there is no hard inquiry on your credit report. You answer a few questions, sign the contract, and you are approved the same day.

How Does Rent to Own Work on a Metal Building?

You choose your building, pay a down payment starting at 10% plus a security deposit, and then make monthly payments over a term you pick. The building is delivered and installed the same way a cash purchase would be. You own it outright once the agreement is paid out, and you can pay the balance off early at any point.

How Much Is the Down Payment on a Rent-to-own Building?

Down payment starts at 10% of the building price and a security deposit is required. Putting more down lowers your monthly payment. Use the calculator on this page to see how 10% versus 20% changes the number.

What Rent-to-own Terms Are Available?

Terms run 24, 36, 48, 60 and 72 months. Shorter terms cost less overall, longer terms give you the lowest monthly payment. Every term lets you pay off the remaining balance early.

How Much Would a $10,000 Metal Building Cost per Month?

With 10% down, a $10,000 building leaves a $9,000 balance. On a 60-month term that works out to roughly $356.43 per month before taxes. Shorter terms are higher, longer terms are lower. The full payment table on this page shows every term.

Can I Pay Off a Rent-to-own Metal Building Early?

Yes. The contract is open, so you can convert the rental into a purchase and pay the balance in full at any time with no early payoff penalty. Many customers pay theirs out well before the term ends.

What Is the Difference Between Rent-to-own and Financing?

Rent-to-own needs no credit check, approves the same day, and runs 24 to 72 months on a month-to-month contract. Financing runs a credit check, covers buildings up to $250,000, and stretches to 180 months for a lower monthly payment. Rent-to-own is the faster path if your credit is thin or you want to skip the application entirely.

What Kinds of Buildings Can I Rent to Own?

Anything priced between $2,500 and $25,000, which covers most carports, metal garages, barns, workshops, sheds and RV covers. Larger commercial buildings and barndominiums fall outside the rent-to-own range and go through financing instead.

Can I Rent to Own a Metal Building with a Concrete Slab?

The building itself goes on the rent-to-own agreement. Concrete is quoted separately because slab work is done by a local contractor before delivery. Tell us on the quote form that you need a slab and we will lay both parts out for you. See metal buildings with concrete for how that works.

Is Rent-to-own Available in My State?

Rent-to-own availability varies by state. Send your ZIP code with your quote request and a building specialist will confirm what is available in your area before you sign anything.
