Give Your Custom Metal Building a Lift

Give Your Custom Metal Building a Lift

While metal garages continue to grow in popularity across America, perhaps you need more than just a place to be able to park your vehicles. Maybe you also need some dedicated space for working on vehicles, too. Having a garage with lift space is a nice bonus for homeowners, and it’s an absolute necessity for commercial auto repair shops. Whether the custom steel building you need is intended for personal use, business use, or both, it’s really a great idea to give your building a lift!

Things to Consider When Considering a Vehicle Lift

Thinking about having a vehicle lift installed? Here are some things you’ll want to think through as you make your plans for your facility:

  • Lift Usage

One of the first things you’ll need to decide is how you intend to use your lift. You know that vehicle lifts are available for commercial use, but there are also several manufacturers who now produce car lifts designed just for home use as well. Home garage lifts that are properly installed can be just as safe and reliable as heavier-duty commercial lifts, and some of them can even be used to essentially double your amount of vehicle storage space. And here’s just one practical reason to consider installing your own garage lift. If you use it to do nothing more than just perform your own oil changes (versus paying someone else to do it), you could end up saving thousands of dollars over the life of your personal vehicles!

  • Lift Capacity

A small scissor or low-profile lift may suit your needs for personal vehicle maintenance just fine. On the other hand, if you intend to do some more intensive automotive work, then you should probably look for a lift that offers higher clearance. A lift with a maximum capacity of 6,000-12,000 pounds will enable you to work on most any car, but if you have pickup trucks or SUVs to work on then you should probably consider going with a heavier-duty column lift. Just know that if it’s a column lift you’re after, chances are good that you’ll want to look for a commercial vendor to provide you with what you need.

  • Custom Building Considerations

Once you have a better idea of what you’re looking for in terms of lift functionality, you next should look at what type of building it will take to accommodate your vehicle and lift needs. For starters, you’ll probably want to start by having a concrete foundation poured, if you don’t have one already – most vehicle lifts require that they be placed on concrete for safety.

Next you’ll want to plan for how much floor space you’ll need in your building, as well as how tall your building needs to be to account for the clearance of any vehicle mounted on a fully-extended lift. You’ll also want to figure in the space required for any lighting you want to mount to the ceiling of your building. And speaking of building height, you should also allow for enough space such that you won’t have to be uncomfortably cramped when working underneath your vehicle(s). Personal comfort matters – if you can’t use your lift without making yourself uncomfortable, then your lift probably won’t get enough use to justify installing it in the first place!

A Custom Steel Garage is Perfect for Housing Vehicle Lifts

A side-entry metal garage is a great building design option for meeting your auto workshop facility needs. A side-entry garage can include plans for bays placed along the length of the building, which helps to maximize the use of your building space, and also allows for easier vehicle entry and exit. A side-entry steel garage from Carport Central can be custom-designed to include as many bays as you need, and can also be manufactured to accommodate vehicles of pretty much any size or profile!
